A man who was almost blinded after an accident at work has won an undisclosed amount in damages.
Trevor Watson, 42, was working as a drainage engineer. He was instructed to take his truck to a hydraulic specialist because of a blockage in its jetting system. During attempts to repair the blockage, the hose sprang loose and hit Mr Watson in the face.
The accident caused a deep wound under Mr Watson’s right eye. He was rushed to hospital where he underwent surgery to repair damage to the retina, but his vision has been irreparably impaired. It comes and goes and Mr Watson is concerned that one day it will disappear altogether. He will have to put drops in his eye for the rest of his life.
Mr Watson brought a claim against his employer on the ground that he had not been provided with eye protection. The claim was settled out of court for an undisclosed sum.
